Care of Sealants
By placing a thin coating over the chewing surfaces of teeth, sealants keep plaque and food debris out
little pits and grooves inherent to back teeth; thus, decreasing the risk of decay. Sealants are only palce
on the bitting surfaces of teeth, areas on the side and between teeth can nat be sealed. Therefore, good oral
hygeine and nutrition are still very important in preventing decay in areas unable to be sealed.
Your child should refrain from chewing gum, and sticky candies which tend to pull
sealants off, as well as, chewing hard candy and ice which can fracture the sealents.
Normal retention of sealents is up to 4 years. Sealants that become displaced in the first 12 months will be
replaced at no charge.
